Perles de Tahiti at BASELWORLD 2006
The World Watch and Jewellery Show, BASELWORLD 2006, closed its doors after eight extremely successful days. Exhibitors reported high levels of satisfaction, thanks to a record number of visitors – at 94,200, 5% up on 2005 – and excellent sales figures. The wide range of innovative and trendsetting products unveiled at the event served to underline BASELWORLD’s position as the world’s premier show in the watch and jewellery industry.
No other pearl inspires jewellery designers to conceive such a rich variety of creations as Tahitian pearls, which are gathered from the lagoons in French Polynesia. Goldsmiths and jewellery designers from 47 countries took part in the “Tahitian Pearl Trophy” competition, which was held for the fourth time. At BASELWORLD, a total of 80 prize-winning creations from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Scandinavia and England could be admired at the Perles de Tahiti exhibition booth. The original designs, together with the shimmering, dark Tahitian cultured pearls in a spectacular array of shades, gave rise to a veritable creative firework. In 2006, the exhibited works, as well as other award-winning pieces of jewellery from the various countries, will also be presented to an international jury and the prizes for the world’s top designs awarded at a special ceremony in Venice.
The Perles de Tahiti booth was once again visited by a great many people from all corners of the globe. On viewing the competition items on show, the numerous members of the press were extremely impressed by the diversity and unique aura of the Tahitian cultivated pearls.
Gratifying were the countless stimulating and positive discussions with manufacturers and wholesalers, as well as with numerous retailers from all over the world. Many of the joint activities planned for this year, such as exhibitions, promotions and advertising campaigns, were discussed in further detail during the trade fair. Pearls – and Tahitian pearls in particular – are fully in trend, a fact that has been confirmed anew by the high level of interest in these exquisite objects.
