Too Circled to Be Square

In the Polynesian culture, the first two mythical pearls, which were given to a princess on earth by Oro, tutelary God of war and peace, were « Poe Rava », the extraordinary « Peacock » and « Poe Konini », the sculptural circled pearl. Both of them testify the primitive origins of the Tahitian pearl. Poe Rava is like a pearly mirror of water, in tribute to the iridescent surface of the ocean. Poe Konini wears the solidified rings of Saturn. These circles they wrap themselves with, are like the rhythms and movements

Of the sea or the perpetual rotation of the Earth around the Sun. Round, pear, drop shaped, circled at the ends, in the middle, colourful or austere, it seems like they have come out of the hands of an ice sculptor who has purposely left rings on their surface, as geometric charms. By their original nature, circled pearls easily feet in conceptual designs, such as the « love circles » or the « Tahitian lasso ». They lovingly harmonise with new metals and contrasted materials, like steel, silver, platinum, rubber, leather-as many invocations of their singularity. Naturally destined to the creative passion, circled pearls represent an inevitable jewel for jewellers. They glorify the circle figure, symbol of protection, time, eternity, the sky, the universe, the Sun, the cosmos, the world, life.
