Tahiti Cultured Pearl jewelry and two Tahiti-inspired mother-of-pearl creations had a key role in French haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier's first Paris fashion show of the 21st Century.Tahiti Cultured Pearl jewelery from the Tahiti Perles-Robert Wan Collection were worn as accessories with one of Gaultier's 52 creations in his spring/summer haute couture collection presented on Jan. 16, 2000 at the Noailles Princess Palace in Paris. One was a pullover made of 1,500 strips of Tahiti mother-of-pearl, the nacre used to create the Tahiti cultured pearl gem. The second was a skirt made of Tahitian mother-of-pearl shells that was worn over the wedding dress at the traditional fashion show finale (see photo bottom left).
