Caring/Cleaning Do's
Cleaning pearls is not complicated:
- Put cultured pearls on after applying cosmetics, perfumes, and other personal care products.
- Wipe pearls with a soft damp or dry cloth after each wearing. This will prevent dirt from accumulating and keep perspiration, which is slightly acidic, from eating away the pearl nacre. We recommend the new pearl care product ,"Treatment and Care for the Tahiti Cultured Pearl"(see Download).
- Periodically wash them with a mild soap and lay them out on a moist towel to dry.
- Dampen pearls with water from time to time and polish them with a drop of oil.
- Keep pearls, which are relatively soft and subject to scratching, separate from other jewelry.
- Restring frequently worn pearl necklaces about once a year, either with silk or nylon to prevent breaking. It's also best to tie individual knots between each cultured pearl. The knots protect the pearls from scratching one another or being lost in case of a break.
