This operation is as critical as the grafting operation. The technician cuts a hole in the gonad to remove the pearl. If the oyster appears healthy enough, the pearl is carefully replaced by another nucleus from 10-11mm in diameter. This is called an over graft, which may produce a pearl of 13-15mm in diameter.
