The "Tahitian Pearl Princes" are present in a motion pictures at the 3rd annual International Oceania Documentary Film Festival "Fifo 2006" from January 25-28 at the Papeete Cultural Center. This short-measuring of twenty-six minutes produces by Gie Perles of Tahiti will be projected out of competition. The film draws up the parallel portraits of five Polynesian champions of slide and a young pearl farmer of the Island « under the wind ». Common points between them : the quest of perfection. The five athletes are Hira Teriinatoofa, 2004 World Surfing Champion , Robert Teriitehau, legendary figure of windsurfing, Tuterai Montaron, became in 2005 one of the twelve best kite-surfers on the planet, Rodo Vinh-Tung, 2001 World Champion of wakeboard and Tamatoa Zebrowski, selected in the French national team of snowboard for the next Olympic Games in Turino.
The pearl farmer is Moana Constant and he manages with his wife a pearl farm in the lagoon of Raiatea. Together, they knew how to diversify their exploitation by creating a workshop of jewellery and by proposing their site as a tour for tourism.
The testimony of the ones and others comes in counterpoint from sequences seizing from the prowess's carried out by our five champions, intercalated with amazing images of divers following for inspection, lines of breeding pearl oysters. Each one says the long patience which their passion requires. Respect of the ocean and the environment, acquisition of the techniques, permanent work, taste of the performance, self controls, moral strength to sponge the things of life. The film of Gie Perles of Tahiti which celebrates these Polynesian models comes to the service of a worldwide image campaign launched in April 2005.
The five champions are appearing wearing very simple links with baroque and ringed Tahiti cultured pearls around their neck and wrist. These bonds of the new wave propose to the avid signs of recognition and concerned young people of the sober purity interfered exotic and tribal fascination which the pearl of Tahiti expresses.
Moana‘s pearls are as many drops of scum torn off from the ocean by Hira, Robert, Tuterai or Rodo to germinate in the secrecy of the lagoons .
